Spanish Heritage Language Learning
Since arriving at the UW a few years ago, Angélica Amezcua, Assistant Professor of Spanish and Director of the Heritage Language Program, has been productive in creating a space where Spanish language is seen as a valuable resource and where Latino/a/x students can take pride in their full linguistic repertoires and cultural backgrounds. She has also cultivated community building through various community-engaged projects, such as the construction of an ofrenda for Día de los Muertos hosted by the UW Libraries, which included performances this year by Rima Way Nina Cumbé and Danza Azteca Nahui OllinTezcatlipocatl.
