Linguistic Bias Working Group

The Linguistic Bias Working Group, steered by Betsy Evans in Linguistics, Russell Hugo in the Language Learning Center, and Alex Panicacci in Psychology, seeks to educate the campus community about the role of linguistic bias in diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.

They are creating a series of videos and mini-courses discussing how linguistic features often associated with race, class, gender, ability, sexuality, geography, and otheridentity markers can be the source of discrimination.

They offered their first workshop on May 15th to help students, faculty, and staff better understand the ways language attitudes and expectations show up in our lives. (talk to Russell about matesol involvement)
